Dr Sung-Young Kim is Senior Lecturer in Politics & International Relations at the Macquarie School of Social Sciences, Macquarie University, where he teaches International Political Economy.

He is a political scientist leading a project on 'The Sources of Competitive Advantage in Exporting Green Energy Systems', which examines why, what and how East Asian governments and corporations are promoting new high-tech green energy industries. He is also one of four Chief Investigators on an ARC Discovery Project examining the political drivers and obstacles to clean energy transitions in Korea and China.

His work has been published in international scholarly journals including Energy Policy (2021), Journal of Environment and Development (2021), Review of International Political Economy (2012, 2019), New Political Economy (2012, 2020), Global Policy (2013), Politics & Society (2015), and The Asia-Pacific Journal: Japan Focus (2016).

He frequently contributes to media outlets including Project Syndicate, ABC News Australia, The Korea Times, The Japan Times, Taipei Times, The Conversation, East Asia Forum and The Interpreter. He is Chairing the Organising Committee of the 2021 Australian Political Studies Association Conference.
